Title: Big Island Bedroom Set
Project/Design: Following a vacation
to the Big Island of Hawaii, a client requested a bedroom set to be made of
Koa wood in a traditional style.
We were able to obtain a rare Fiddleback Koa veneer that had just been released
for sale that was cut from a Koa tree felled in the '30s. The tightness of
the grain compression, depth of grain and shimmer were exquisite! Hand selected
solid Koa wood was turned, routed and shaped into fluted corner posts, moldings,
bed posts and bun feet. The raised panels on the doors and drawer faces was
veneered with the Fiddleback Koa prior to shaping so as to appear to be from
a solid piece of wood. The crest of the armoire features hand-carved Koa
leaves and blossoms of native Hawaiian flowers. The initials of the client
personalize the desk.
